To the Reader: May the One You Love Be by Your Side Every Time You Wake
There is an imaginary era that keeps growing more extreme.
Meaningless grind, bitter divisions between groups. Endless flame wars, witch-huntstyle persecution, everyone on edge...
The word "love" seems less and less believed in.
But love isn't just romance. It's a parent's love for a child, a citizen's love for their fellow human, a stranger's kindness, a creator's devotion to their craft, and the love we bear for humanity itself...
It sounds pessimistic, perhaps. Things that aren't believed in might as well not exist.
But this book is different.
That's why I wanted to write a short story collection about love.
Here, you'll find a father's love fierce enough to overcome any obstacle.
You'll find love for a stranger that shatters the ice of indifference.
And in fantastical tales, you'll find love for those who are different—for worlds apart from our own.
Whether love's power is great or not, no one can say for certain.
But at the very least, I hope these stories prove that love exists.
Love is also a kind of food.
It won't make you fat. But it gives us courage to face a fractured world.
This collection is like a little snack shop. Many flavors—something for everyone.
Three meals a day, sunrise and sunset. When you have a free moment, drop by for a bite.
