Soul-Capture App (Part 1)

Soul-Capture App

Without realizing it, she'd been chatting with him for over two hours. By the time Sarah Chen put down her phone, it was already past ten at night.

How incredible! Just five days ago, after her first blind date with this man, she had practically decided to delete his WeChat the moment she got home.

It wasn't that Sarah was picky. The conversation had simply been too painful. They shared no common interests, and their perspectives on life couldn't have been more different.

And of course, his rather ordinary looks hadn't helped either.

The most exasperating part was that near the end of their meeting, he'd actually asked to take a photo of her, claiming his mother wanted to see what she looked like.

She'd obliged, but internally, she must have rolled her eyes at least ten thousand times.

Never mind, never mind. She'd been on enough blind dates to have seen all kinds of weirdos. Endure this one, and she'd never have to deal with this idiot again!

But the turnaround happened that very night after they parted ways. A WeChat message from him popped up on her phone.

Sarah had already decided not to reply. She'd opened WeChat only to block him, but the message turned out to be about something she'd recently grown quite interested in.

Strange—she didn't remember mentioning this during their chat this afternoon. Could he be less boring than she'd thought? Did they actually share some interests after all?

In those brief seconds of hesitation, another message from him followed up on the same topic. Sarah replied a few times, and before she knew it, they'd been chatting for over an hour.

The him on WeChat was completely different from the man she'd met during the day. He brought up topics that perfectly aligned with Sarah's interests, and their communication flowed so smoothly that the conversation took off without her even noticing.

Even after saying goodnight, she still felt a lingering sense of wanting more.

How strange, this feeling. Lying in bed that night, Sarah couldn't stop thinking about Mark Wang.

Being able to chat so comfortably with someone—no awkwardness, no impatience, no constant clock-watching—was an experience she'd never had with any of her previous blind dates.

In Sarah's view on relationships, being able to truly talk to someone was the most fundamental prerequisite. Houses and cars mattered too, of course, but if you had nothing to say to each other, then no matter how good the person's conditions were, she wouldn't pursue things further.

Could Mark Wang be the right person? She immediately put the brakes on that thought.

After all, they'd only chatted for one night. The awkwardness of the daytime encounter was still fresh in her memory. He'd said it was because he was nervous on a first meeting. Regardless, she'd wait and see how things went.

Over the next few days, they chatted on WeChat every day, and the conversations grew longer and longer.

With each exchange, Sarah discovered more shared interests between them. It was as though they shared some telepathic connection—he always seemed to appear right when she wanted someone to talk to, and never bothered her when she was busy with work or wanting rest.

Perhaps he really was the person she'd been waiting for all along, the one destined for her.

In the span of just five days, Sarah could hardly believe that such a thought had even crossed her mind.

Oh right—tomorrow was Saturday, and they'd already made plans to go out. This would be their second meeting, but unlike the obligatory first date, Sarah found herself actually looking forward to tomorrow.

*Ding!* Her phone vibrated. The screen showed 11:55 PM. A new WeChat message.

"Help me!!!" It was from Mark Wang.

He should have been asleep at this hour. What did this mean? Sarah found it strange and replied with a "?".

"Sarah, I'm being held somewhere by Mark Wang right now. Hurry and save me!"

"Who are you?" Sarah hoped this wasn't some prank of his.

"I'm you!"
